OUR STORY
The Story of 1988. — Where History Meets Fashion
In 1988, the United States passed the Women's Business Ownership Act — the first law that allowed women to access business credit without a male co-signer. It was a groundbreaking shift in economic access. And most people have never heard of it.
That story deserves to be told. 1988. exists to make sure it is.
Founded by Xenia Ambatzoglou after a 20-year career in financial services — where she witnessed firsthand how rarely credit, financial or otherwise, is distributed fairly among women — 1988. was born from lived experience and a refusal to let history stay invisible. That lived experience became this brand.
- is not just clothing. Every piece is designed to spark conversation — about ownership, access, and the invisible networks that shape who gets to build and who doesn't. Our signature Collage is a layered archive of women, movements, and moments that made progress possible. It is art. It is history. It is a reminder that progress is collective.
Each piece is intentionally produced — U.S. made where possible, designed with purpose, and built to last beyond a season. A portion of every sale supports organizations advancing women's access, leadership, and opportunity.
When you wear 1988. you're not just wearing a tee. You're wearing a reminder of how far we've come — and a declaration of how far we still intend to go.
